Rem has just published our Calendar for events this year, and already it needs to be updated with provisional dates for German wheelieboard events.

Willingen will be the place to be: there's the German Open in August, a nice boarding boot camp late-May where you can improve freestyle, downhilling, and visit Winterberg, and the season opener at the start of May.

There's a buzzing scene; check out this vid (that passed us by when it came out 3 months ago).. It's pretty frantic on the freestyle edit but has enough wubwub action and post to make it all sound & look sehr gut, and it certainly gets you thinking about the coming competition season...

There'll probably be more in Sulzbach-Laufen again too, like May 2011's South German Open, a board & bike crossover event...

Spanking the Kindle

As you may have seen, Rem Central has spanked right up the monkey recently, with all kinds of interweb wonkiness trying to sabotage us from bringing out regular mountainboard magic.

Normal service should return soon (fingers crossed) and there'll hopefully be more articles & exhibitions out in Feb, but it may well be a bit quiet as work will begin soon on Remolitiondotcom THREE, Revenge of the Wordpress :-O
It's due for release in the Spring.

This here blog, twitter and facebook have been far more condusive to our cause in the last year than the main site (due to it's lumpiness), and the way we all use use websites & e-devices is evolving. We plan on moving too, growing, changing, and at the very least doing what we already do, just a bit better.

With that in mind, we've also put together our first ebook. Previously, had you typed 'mountainboarding' into the ever-growing Kindle Store, you'd have got nothing. Now you will.

It's a compilation of Remolition's finest interviews, featuring international riders & mountainboard media-makers like Arno VDV, Diego Anderson, Evan Carlson, Pete Tatham, Rhys Crilley, Theo Acworth, Dylan Warren, Andy Milenkovic and many more.

Also included is an exclusive interview with your trusty rem crew (that be Smilie, Rog & me) that can only be found here... That's gotta be worth 77p alone!
As you can tell, we're not in this for the money lol

A great solo sesh down the local yesterday.

Really muddy thanks to recent rainage, normal runs were a bit slow but you know the Daddy will never fail. The afternoon flew by:

rode loads of lines to mix it up
had my pod playing while trudging up (in my full-face for speaker effect)
put more air in my tires
spent a wee while making a small jump (to the side of a squidgy bog)
sessioned it. (crap, but foundations for the future)

saw a couple of muntjacs (& loads of dog walkers)
put some wicked 180 slides in
took a photo of tree bark with a Rem R logo revealing a tight butt-hole peeping out

sketched a tree & eat (why isn't eat spelt differently to eat?) a banana
rode more
noticed it was getting dark later hooray

soaked up the beautiful atmos
mused on mountainboarding, nature, time travel etc
rode some more still
got dog shit on my board and wristies...

WTF is up with that! I think it's happened once or twice before ever to me but it's certainly happened to others when riding in a group... That waft: that familiar, fresh foul odour. "Oh-oh, who's trod in the dog shit?" (well i was alone, so it was me, obv).
Plenty of leaves about though and a bottle of water so it was fine, but it makes me think we need a storming british campaign against the blighters... Open up a special department of S.A.S (Surfers Against Sewage), and call it Riders Against Dog Shit or something.
Except last week at a different local spot there was masses of plastic bottles & general rubbish everywhere (beacause some idiots just can't take their own litter home).
So, my new organisation is RADSALAS, Riders Against Dog Shit And Litter And Stuff.

Lucky for some

Well it's Friday 13th yet here's a bit of personal good news.
Just over a year ago, my board (TK pro 100) was stolen from my garage, and today it is back in my posession :)

After it was nicked, i alerted various authorities and mountainboard forums etc as you would, but i didn't think i'd ever see it again. And it wasn't covered on my home insurance either.

Well, thanks to Surfing Dirt Forum & evilC, i was alerted to it being on ebay 6 months later! It was being sold by Cash Convertors in Lewisham (?!). It was immediately seized & stuck in the evidence room while they did the paper trail.

Over the last few months i had the odd call from the PC in charge of 'the investigation' who told me they had the name & address of the guy who sold it to Cash Convertors and they were going to interview him if he was ever in.

At one point, the riots in London were blamed for my local force not having many opportunities to keep on knocking on his door.

Then last week they called to say they were pretty much giving up so i could have it back! Boo, but yay.
His name will be on file so if this suspect is arrested in the future then it'll flag up so that's good i s'pose.
Main thing is, i finally got my board back :)

Thing is, before it was found, i got another one, so now i have a TK pro for each foot haha
It was pretty funny picking it up from the Police station, evidence bag cable-tied through the trucks, trying to fit it in the car boot with the other one and all my riding shit.

And before you ask, i'm gonna keep riding my original one (there was just something more 'special' about it, and it's got better heelstraps ;) and i'm gonna get a new pro 95 deck & stick the extra trucks, bindings on that. Sweet. And what of the spare pro 100 deck? It's gonna go on my living room wall :)
All's well that ends well :)

A week into 2012 and i'm sure we're all sticking to our new year's resolutions: getting fitter, dialling shifty bonk backflips, understanding sudoku, whatever it might be.

Kindle-ing

Over the last month or so we have been busy, even though it doesn't look like it by the amount of up dates on Rem central. First there was pilot of the Remolition Freeride Master Classes over at Allestree in Derby at the end of November. Here's the FB gallery if you missed it.

The plan is to hold some more, with the next one looking like it might be in kent. While I'm tpying about it, we are also planning to offer guiding round the Chiltens and have a base for Freeride master classes there as well. Drop us a message through facebook if you wanna know more.

Then there was the street photo shoot round Milton Keynes with and without santa suits. More to come from this in the shape of an gallery from Daz 'Dirtymonkey' Murphy and waffle from me. Enough to say some proper shizz went down.

While all this has been going Roger has been working his way through Rem's archive of interviews and turning them into a Kindle book. So if you find a Kindle in your stocking this christmas.Then new year will bring some mountainboard ramblings to put on it. For starts for all our American readers you can already subscribe to this here blog for your Kindle.

Like mountainboarding, snowboarding has seen some uber-tricks getting nailed in 2011. Only in snowboarding they are super uber monster mega tricks...

British snowboarder Billy Morgan just stomped his first triple rodeo (after his triple backflip in 2010):

The UK has a bit of snow at the mo, which is pretty good considering the time of year... Need some in the Sarf though: hope we get a dump like last year so i can get my snowboard out for a bit.

It featured in the ATB Junkies Film Fest in October (btw, rem write-up never arrived so here's one: it was well good), and took an award for probably 'best feel-good, rider filmed, bx crazed, character led bit of filmic documenting with a Faith No MOre Soundtrack' or something ;)

Anyway, it's well good seeing bx in first person; the scene, different centres, the wicked moves, the stacks, pile-ups, people, weather, thrills, spills lurra lurra yadda yadda. Have some fun: watch the experience.

Remolition's first 'freeride masterclass' took place at Allestree in Derby at the weekend. Smilie n Rog taught newbies, rebuilt an RKB sk8truck board, and got everyone practising their skillz.

Some more experienced riders had fun at this cool spot too, check out Skully's jibtastic ollie to tree stump rock n roll stall to fakie type shit :-O

Ade DirtBox said "More I ride with you fellas, more I find out there's so much more to learn, but that's what keeps it so interesting. Onwards and upwards (and downwards)!"

More Awesome Autumnness

Following on from the last post, a quick update on the Kings freeride meet before the awesome Dirt-Monkey photos hit Rem proper.

As Rog said in his quick roundup on his blog, 15 riders made it, hit it, and loved it.
It was great to have so many wheelieboard freeride fanatics in my fave local spot at one time, if not slightly surreal- I've not seen the car park so full since it was filled with Police searching for terrorist weapons in 2006!

There were some seriously skilled riders, all absolutely killing it, ripping & slashing their way down all manner of leaf-covered runs. Harry said 'best drift ever' :)

On a personal note, i was impressed by how enthusiastically other riders tackled challenging lines & slopes (that i know like the back of my hand)- they got, like soooo stuck in and even seemed to do the tougher runs with ease (notably Bieran & Ant!).

I also loved the fact other peeps were buzzing off different bits to my normal faves, meaning i took lines i'd never taken before. Also, i don't race bx so it was also mental having so many riders right on my effing tail!!!

As well as Daz getting back behind his lens, Tim Jones did some more testing for his (& Harry, ATBShop etc)'s new film. Check out the footy, it's sweeeeeet. Smell the earthiness and get some major leaves slashed right in ur slow-mo mush...

These guys are responsible for one of the best mountainboard vids of 2011 (imho) and I also got to see the next part of the cablecam footage that got everyone buzzing earlier this year... It's looking real good but we'll have to wait till 2012 to see it proper. Till then, here it is again to whet your appetites and generally make you go 'yyyyyeppp'...

Awesomeness indeed.

Other highlights included Mackeral as the new mid-ride snack, Tim lovin' the riding after not riding for 2 yrs, me doing a weird handplant somersault roll thing over a stump to avoid MEBA's Horse, Smilie & Rog taking last run of the day in total darkness, massive long pole-cam in the face, Jed (7) doing the Daddy on his bike, massive loads of sweets, old men smoking pipes, flask tea and general day-long shredding of the gnar. Yeeha!

Totally sweet saturday checking 'the going' at Kings in anticipation of next weeks meet. Smilie & I took in all manner of downhill freeridey goodness, enjoying the wealth of riding from easy to effing tech to sublime. Man the wet leaf cover was just awesome to slash n slide n drift over n through. Totally great stuff.

Some say freeriding is an old man's game - read Roger's musings on this here. He's probably right: (though obviously many younger riders do it too), us 'Masters' yearn for something with a bit more 'soul' than just a big kicker... Kings Wood has soul in spades.

If you fancy coming for a tour round on sun 20th as well, check the facebook page. There's challenges for all levels of riding, fun and soul galore, and all ages welcome, even if you're under 30 lol

Get down to your local 'Smiths and part with four squid for the latest issue of Huck magazine...

It's a great read; it's always covered boardsports & associated interests like film, art, & activism, and for a change it's a mag that credits it's reader with having a little intelligence. It negates, for instance, glossy ostentatious photo-fests for quiet portraits and concentrates on the writing with genuinely interesting features and quality interviews.
So, in the latest issue (on sale till mid December), you'll find stuff like features on filmmaker Travis Rice (The Art of Flight), pro skater Geoff Rowley, Japanese breakdancers, Mountainboarding and more. Wait! what was that?!?

Longtime wheelieboard rider & writer Laurie Barnes has penned a great article about "the scene that just is what it is".
Taking 'Summer Sessions' at Bugs as it's hook, his words take you through some of what went on that weekend with quotes from the riders before heading into an informed bit of history, musing on the various disciplines, comps, sponsorship and community.
(re photos: It's Huck, so don't expect any flashy big air freestyle photographs, expect Mick K pulling a face and a random handstand in a field!)
It's brilliant to read (coming from someone who actually knows what they're talking about) and describes us lot pretty well, and hits the nail on the head when talking about it's 'status'... Indeed the pondering thesis-like intro even asks:
"Is Mountainboarding the eccentric kid at sliding school or the last remnants of a counterculture in a world of superbrands?"
The answer is clearly both. Good work Laurie, and nice one Huck.

Halloween is a time for ghosts, ghouls and mountainboard events

I think about a month ago I tweeted after cts&j and the ATBjunkies that was it for events this year. How wrong I could I be.

This Halloween there's loads going on with good scattering of events up down the country. For you to get your autumn camping on and show off you ghostly skills, fancy dress optional but deffo take a beanie.

In no partical order first up:

RTH End of Summer Slopestyle Jam Looks like it's going to be a mellow jam on the bowley, hippy, pipey and massive quarter slopestyle down there in Surry 'darling' With a a bit prize money thrown in for the winner

Heading to 'middle earth' to place of all things orange Ironsides Courtfarm MBC for PUATB 's Halloween sunday . No doubt their will be all the normal fancy dress silly game madness you expect when Ironside and PUATB get together.

And last but least if you looking for where's the party at then the place to be seen dressed like a if-ey looking skeleton, has to Octobole !!!!. There is going to be loads going on from flood lit night jams to 'tricks for treats' with food laid on by everyone's Ape Bar. Not forgetting live music and more dubnidge than you can burn a basebin with from their resident DJ's. It has to be said the Mark and crew at Hales superbole know how to throw a party.

One weekend three events, pretty sick, non? Right I'm to cut some eye holes in white sheet ;-)

Rad Vids

Here's a freestyle bmx vid:
An amateur production from Mexico it just goes to show that with todays technologies anyone can make an amazing vid (with hd digital cameras, editing & post production software) at home on the laptop. But you do need to know at least one awesome rider to get something like this :)

It reminded me of one of the Wat Tees vids premiered at the recent ATBJunkies Film Festival at Bugs, which is testament to budding film-makers in our 'sport'.

The YouTube generation have all the facilities and inspiration available to create these mini-wonders. They're generally 'riding-to-music' with little narrative which means have become like alternate sport-pop vids... Pick a short song you love and edit footage of your mates riding to fit it.
Of course you still need great footage in the first place, lighting, editing skills, eye, etc etc...

The Film Festival had 6 main entries this year, including vids from Wat Tees, Ben Searle, PUATB and Harry ATBA. Each of them had individual personality and were all really great mountainboarding vids.
The ATBJunkies will be bringing a report to Remolition in the next fortnight all about it, with all the vids.
It's fantastic these semi-disposable mini-epics are being made. With enthusiastic riders regularly creating new webisodes ,and an annual film festival, mountainboarding is truly lucky to have people & crews like those-who-entered, ATC Productions, Project Doc, ATBJunkies, Dikkovision, Tricky Media, One Day, et al. And that's just in the UK...
Long may it continue.

Those lovely folk over at Surfing Dirt are currently running the annual Pumpkin Carving contest, so Rog, Smilie & I got our Halloweenheads on while shredding Tring Park in Wigginton on Saturday...

It was a full day of Autumn freeride in full effect;

An awesome carpet of leaves n shucks everywhere.

Mellow, cruisey, carve-y paths.

Jibbing sessions.

Pumpkin carving, jumping, bonking, tapping, splatting, knocking out the ball park.

Wicked, long, connecting tech tracks.

An adrenaline-surging gnar run of (almost) doom.

Jump sessioning (witness the photo evidence of leap 'allergic to freestyle' beforeulook getting a grab in! :)

Drifting for days.

Catching edges, and loads more...

Lager top & peanuts at the pub after. yum.

The weather was blissful, and made everything even better. It was another ace day's mountainboarding, full of enthusiasm & quality banter, with extra pumpkin-based fun thrown in... Thanks Jimmy Chaos & SD for motivation to do something different, and Rog for bothering to buy the pumpkins therefore giving us the chance to get photos like the one in the flickr feed over there lol --->

Following on from the last post's photo of Renny Myles flying high over the big Bugs table (at Cream Teas last weekend), here's an awesome alternate view.

Coming from the lens of the mighty Paul Crilley, this shows just how big he goes in a sweet animated exclusive, with cool close-up portraits of before and after: you can get to see the grit, determination and sweet-eating as he drops in to these monster jumps, and after; the smiles, beers, and anticipation as he wonders both what goodies he'll score at prize-giving & who's gonna win at the wrestling match later on :)

Cream Teas & ATB Filmfest Jam

A great weekend at Bugs with BFC's Cream Teas & Jam round 3 and the 3rd annual ATBJunkies Film Festival... Good turnout, cool riding and quality films on the big screen. And the rain held off! Sa-weet.

Expect Rem reports in the next couple of weeks... (i'd do it now but, like most others there, i'm well muggy bonehead right now ;)

Another international event that went off in September was the Brazilian Local Trip Championship. With intense bx and freestyle taking place day & night, it looks like a pretty fun event in beautiful surroundings. Cue the metal!

After Psychoride comes the final round of the French series, which took place on 10-11th September in Fecamp. Check out the tight, slightly-CourtFarm-esque bx track and a bit of the french freestyle action... Always good to see vids of mountainboard meet-ups from other countries (even if the soundtrack is not to your personal taste lol), and should you like the look of the centre then just think: if you live near Brighton, then it's closer than going to Bugs!

10 years.
Some thoughts:

1/. This subject is emotive and real; it affected us all. If you don't think it's really relevant to a simple mountainboard rider then read this Rem article from summer '06.
Our hearts go out to those whose world changed beyond comprehension a decade ago.

2/. I heart NY. I've skated at the top of the WTC second tower, with some mates in July '96, when we travelled the States. Ben was filming but turned the camera off when we (of course) got reprimanded by security. I've still got the vhs tape. Sim did a sweet pop shuvvit.

3/. Boardsports are today helping bridge some of the gaps between us all. In 2007 some skaters went to Kabul and started what has grown into an amazing phenomenon, as Afghan boys and girls pick up skateboards instead of guns. Skateistan, a sk8 school, was formed and in 2009 their first skatepark was opened. It has now spread Internationally and will finally be getting the recognition it deserves in the form of a film. I emplore you to watch the trailer and then have a look around the website.

Back for the Future

There's loads of personal preference when it comes to what footwear to use while mountainboarding.

However if you're going hoverboarding, it's generally agreed you'll need the Nike MAG (Magnetic Anti Gravity), the greatest trainer never made, from Back to the Future part2.

Well, it is the future and we don't quite have hoverboards but you can now buy the Mag, auto laces not quite as they ~~were~~ are in 2015 but still with all the lighty-up shit. They've even made a mini-edition-advert of BttF with Doc & the Delorean to promote...!

So get over to ebay now to get yourself one of 1500 pairs of these iconic shoes.

They'd probably be pretty darn good for mountainboarding too, except 1/. they need a bit more rugged grip on the sole for trudging uphill, and 2/. they're about 5000 quid. Great Scott!

Well it's the last day of August which cheerfully means that's pretty much it for summer 2011.

How was it for you?

I'm not going get involved in full 2011 look back here, that's best left for another post or update on rem central.

Instead despite the summer coming to an end it doesn't mean all the events are done and dusted for this year. Quite the opposite, there are still a couple weekends of camping and competing at centres left before 2011 is over.

This weekend coming we have the next round of Cream Teas and Jam at Surf the turf up there in that there lake district. Saturday they have got a bit go-kart racing in the morning and then some banked slalom action us wheeleyboardists in afternoon. Then on sunday expect all the normal BFC jibbery fun and prizes.

The following weekend it's time to head even further north to Scotland for the Brakeboard weekender. The plan so for is Perth track friday night, then on Saturday pay visit to the 2005 ATBA downhill track at Dunkeld and sunday all FB say's something big. My money's on going and picking off a proper mountain somewhere. We might even be looking at the highest mountainboard decent in the UK!

And finally to round the 2011 event season off we have the mega event at Bugsboarding on the second weekend of October. A weekend where you get two events and AGM in one. On the 8th (saturday)you have the last round of this years of cream teas and Jam. All served up on Bug's many, many sick jibs and freestlyie hit's. When it dark the big screen gets lit on what must the third ATBjunkies film festival.

This year ATBjunkie have come up with the cunning plan for all those who fancy seeing now fast you can put a film together. 24 hours of madness, the plan is you get the brief friday night and it has to be all done and dusted ready for viewing saturday night during the film festival. So you are going to have to quick and original. Which is going to be tough. After all it's going pretty tempting to stay at bugs and film but lets face it there is going to be a few other crews thinking the same thing.

And on sunday it's down to business and the ATBAUK AGM. Which if you have got something to say, wont to play part in helping the sport grow or just feel it will be interesting to see what other people thoughts about how the sport is run. Then it is well worth going along you never know there might be free tea and biscuits.

Don't forget just because the events have finished boarders wont be getting together. I'm sure the once a month freeride meets will be happening threw out the winter again this year.

While I''m writing about riding free or other wise, then we are planning some freeride master classes. So if you wont to brush up your freeriding technique or just want some hints and tips on how to improve your riding. Then come along it's just for freerider's. So watch this space as they say.

Maybe there's something in the air. Revolutions, unnecessary wars, civil unrest, economy fatigue, consumerismentality, environmental murder, famine & flood. The sky around us is apparently falling down. Everything is becoming more extreme.
That is clearly the raisin why mountainboard trickology is going through the roof. It's evolution time, peoples.
Seems for the more considered amongst us, riding not rioting has been where you push the limits, where you can express yourself without having to go looting, where benchmark freestyle says more than two fingers at the po po ever could...

Yes the last month or 2 has seen nu-skool rail slaughter, 900's, one-footed flips, the first double-backflip, McTwists, and probably more; seems in MountainboardlandTM there's super-tricks being nailed... These firsts (helped in no small part by the efforts of ATCproductions) have led to seconds and third helpings, and no doubt more to follow.
In point of fact, the first stomped double-backflip by Andy Milenkovic a few weeks ago has now been followed up with more superrotation action by Matt Brind and Joe Dickson, MBS Europe Pro riders that have had them sorted in foam for a while but fully joined the exclusive club this weekend just gone.
Josh Maddox' backyard Compound was again the setting. Seems the fact he's got a massive kicker on to dirt that's exactly the same as the one into foam is really helping riders step-up... Massive props and general high-fives to Brindy & Dikko! Check out the dubstep double-flips courtesy of ProjectDoc (who incidentally have a nice new simplified website to boot).

(Of course the real crux of the vid lies not in the double-backflips but in the hair; Brindy rockin' the lego man look and Dikko sporting a suave wispy mooshtook. And therein lies the key: if you wanna nail some uber tricks too, get yourself some unique individual whimsical post-ironic don't-give-a-fuck good old fashioned style ;-) Own it, girlfriends.

The ATBA's UK Downhill mountainboard competition went off this weekend in Wales.

For the amazing (almost) full story, check out this video.

For the purposes of hilarity (and to show off the cyclical nature of underground sports movements & similarities between them), all mountainboards have been replaced with rad bikes, Dave has been replaced with the Repack Race, Wales has been replaced by the USA, the time has been changed to the late 70's, and Roger Swannel has been replaced by Charlie Kelly.

The weather might not be as summery as it could be. But it's not stopping riders getting out there and making the most of all the events which are going on at the mo. It's just over halfway through July and we have already down 2 events, with 2 left to go. Bugs and crew kicked off the month with Summer Sessions and the ATBAUK followed it with round 3 of their international series. And still to come we have numero uno of the BFC cream teas and jam series @ knockhill mbc (who has a nice new looking website, rem 'like's this') and to finish July we have a trip to see Dave for the first ATBAUK downhill comp since 2005. Not bad really if only I could have taken the month off, it would have been sick.

If like me you can't get to all the events you want and want to know what's happening as it does. Then, when us Remolitionaireis find ourselves at an event we are going to tweeting like deranged celebrity. So if want to be kept in the loop why not .Follow @rem_on_the_move

Last weekend saw Rem's newest member of the team Eveey Ruth head to otg with her blackberry in one hand and her DSLR in the other. So as well as tweeting till her berry ran out of juice we will also be bringing an gallery and an article from the eventin the next couple of weeks. Eveey wasn't the only at Out to Grass twitpicin' and sharing what was going on in 140 characters. The ATBAUK were also tweeting away, so I wonder is this going to spread through the world of mountainboarding.

At least where the atba is concerned if you sitting in a wet field at an event with your smart phone. Then you arn't going to need to leave your tent to find out when racing is going to start. Happy days technology to the rescue :-)

Seems July in GB is hotting up (comp-wise anyway) with Summer Sesssions on at Bugs THIS WEEKEND, round 3 of the UK series next weekend at OTG, Cream Teas at Knockhill the weekend after and the freshly announced Downhill Challenge on the 30th. That's more wheelieboarding than you can shake a pretty big stick at!
But what of Summer Sessions i hear you ask?

There are new features being finished off so you can expect a wicked session with lots of people you may have heard of dicking about on their wheeled sticks of shredical wonder.

Bugs Boarding is a great centre so get down there if you can: there may be a few spots of rain but that just means we may get the World Powerslide Championships 2011... ;)

There is some booty on offer for riders to win with their best creative moves in a load of mini-comps and there'll be some random prizes too: notably the 3 Remolition 'Random Tractor' Trophies. Hell yeah ooh arrrrrrr.
There will be a lot of filming going on too as peeps garner footage for display at the ATBJunkies film fest in September (which coincides with CT & J round 3. bonus!) so expect as many cameramen as riders lol

WakeSk8 crossover craziness

After king of dirt, flugtag, bedroom jam, night riders, donkey cross, soapbox racers and so many more, Redbull now defy the flow of water with an upstream wakeboarding event in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Using a motorised tow-line this is a more 'extreme' version of wakeskating; a wake/sk8/snowboard style jib park/pool crossover which is getting really big really quick, spectators loving the thrills, spills, tricks n fun that happens right before their eyes.

Proof is in the O'neill wakeskating event 'Wake the Line' in Cologne, Germany that took place in June just gone. Check it out; so many spectators and tricks being pulled like "a huge melon 360 out of the quarter into a switch toeside 900" and "a backside 270 to switch noseslide"...

I still think it's pretty surreal seeing a stairset in the middle of a swimming pool, but reckon we can expect to see more of this in the future, and i'll admit it looks like it'd be a whole lot of fun on scorching summer days when it's just too dang hot to trudge up a hill twenty times carrying your mountainboard!

If you're doing some street riding, rocking some massive stairset on yr mntnbrd always looks well cool and feels sweet (if not pretty high impact on yr knees if onto tarmac/concrete etc)...
There's some great examples on vids out there such as the classic Urban Freestyler vid featuring Tom Kirkers, Alex Downbag etc, and in the BFC'S Martyn James streets his NoSno... Martyn of course did a 'riding stair sets' trick guide on Big Rem (here!) if you want some tips.

So what made me think about urban stairsets? Well, peep dis:

Yeah, sure, the cover shot is awesome & it looks pretty epic, but check the making-of vid showing off the shoot... It's practically unbelievable and, in fact, a totally effing epic stairset with a capital EPIC.

(btw, look, a pro with no lid or pads! -If u r one of those sanctimonious "u r so stoopid for not wearing a helmet i'm telling on you" people then watch this & shut the hell up. Thanks.)

Hot Work

phew, scorchio out there today. Would have loved to have been in England's garden for the Kent Descent but a few hours late afternoon in one of my local spots had to do (and v good it was too). Bet riding & walking uphill all day was hot work for those taking part!

The Kent Descent is a new comp on the scene, a team-based downhill challenge. With round 2 of the UK series last weekend, it means the ATBA have been seriously busy recently! Sterling work from all involved :)

Rem will be getting reports up soon from these 2 events so we can all see & share in the competitive side of the wheeled goodness that is happening all over our green and pleasant land in june 2011. Hoorah.

And if you were at Glasto, hope u had a good festival :)

Mountainboarding, All Terrain Boarding, Off-Road Boarding. Whatever you call it, it's here and it's rolling... Today is the day we all celebrate our love of gravity-powered wheelieboards by pretending loads of other people will give a shit about what we do!
It can be a slog, like trudging up a monster hill, but when somebody does show a keen interest or you can enthuse someone enough for them to even have a look at a website, then that's awesome. For a stranger to understand your passion means you have conveyed the joy you get from it; you have convinced them that it's funner than just good and gooder than mere fun. They'll have a butchers and hopefully book themselves a lesson at their nearest centre.
Personally, i'm in the shop today and i've brought my board with me n set it up in the window, constantly playing dvd's on loop (reminded me how good 'Hot Action' & 'Like This' are) and am giving out stickers & postcards to everyone who comes in! Really good reaction already and it's kinda fun telling people "it's actually 'world mountainboard day today!' stock reply: "really?!" ( with raised eyebrows) lol
Will get myself a nice little roll in after work too ;)

Many of the UKs numerous mountainboard centres are doing bonus stuff today and indeed as i write this, the second round of the UK Championships is going down at The Edge in Shropshire (some meaty, muddy boardercross racing today no doubt!).
Wherever you are & whatever you're up to with your shredstick today, hope you have a good one. Share the stoke, make believers out of whoever you can, and just have a sweet ride.

Mountainboard Mags

Our friends over at PUATB have been working on some mountainboard media for their Uni projects... Simon Neck, NoSno fiend & PixelDistort head man, has put a load of the crews vids, photos , art and writing into a digital-mag format. Clad in Si's tie-dyed stoner aesthetic, the mag is a good read and a pleasant change from the usual way we digest our electronic information... Nice one!

(Big Rem has a cool exhibition of Si's artwork coming soon btw)

The cover says 'June 2011' indicating there may be others to follow.. let's hope so because mountainboarding needs more pro-active riders getting involved with the promotion. There's loads of us documenting our wheelieboard adventures and publishing on assorted different platforms but it'd be great to bring them all together in one place (& i don't mean facebook).

It is about time mountainboarding had some tangible 'real' paper presence. Maybe not a newsagent-shelf type magazine, but something similar-ish, that rider's can actually hold & cherish. Maybe you could get it at a centre or comp, pass it to your mates, show your mum n dad, treasure forever etc.

Russian rider Andrey Yenin is doing something along these lines with a collectable book featuring mountainboard photos & art from round the world (more news on this when we get it), and Remolition too is looking to paper; an (initially) one-off publication, showcasing the best of our photos to date with new articles & art. If there is the interest there, it will happen. However, we will need your thoughts, co-operation, help, and willingness to buy it!

I'm lucky enough to have been getting my visual meanderings about quite a bit in the mountainboarding world. There's loads in the past like ATBmag stuff, Terfware, Exit, the ATBA, random flyers, Hill62 etc, and currently there's The Rem, more flyers, graffing-up centres, & not to mention graphics for the mighty MBS (TK pro, new lids, more tba ;)

Aside from all the freelance work, canvas painting <'Nucleosynthesis part 2', 2010, and running a sk8 shop in my home-town 3 days a week, i'm also part of The Soulful Gallery (tba on the website soon), an extremely talented collective: we share a studio, sell prints & original art, run workshops, put on exhibitions, and do live murals...

One such live art event is happening this weekend in Bristol, so if you're nearby on saturday or sunday, and like contemporary (street) art, come on down & say hi at UPFEST 2011, Europe's biggest Graffiti Art Jam. We're gonna be in The Vector car park (opposite the Tobacco Factory), and will be painting one seriously sick 30ft long piece...

S'gonna be dope, although i don't think i'll get the chance to mountainboard any of Brizzle's top freeride spots! ;)

Tell ‘em what they’re missing!

I’m always baffled when I hear mountainboard centres complaining that they aren’t making any money. How can centres not be making any money? They are running the perfect return customer businesses. And with so much cheap or free marketing available that has a high ROI centres should be full of people enjoying mountainboarding and giving their hard-earned cash for the privilege.

Let’s have a look at a similar business and see how they did it. Go Ape was started in 2002 by an Ex Army officer and his wife. Over the past nine years it has grown from a single site in Thetford Forest to 27 sites across the UK that employ 240 staff and generate an annual turnover of around £6m. 2.2 million people have been to a Go Ape and it has been nominated for a number of business awards including the 76th best company in the UK to work for. Not bad. Perhaps they have a business model that is worth aspiring to.

So what could mountainboard centres do to ape this success? Two things spring to mind; marketing and customer service . Marketing gets ‘em there in the first place. Customer Service gets ‘em to come back. I know what they’ll say; “That’s corporate sell-out, man”. Yep, you carry on being poor. Or we can come with a cheap, cost-effective, wide-reaching means of marketing mountainboarding straight off the top of my head.

Let’s go where the people are. Let’s go to the internet, that’s got loads of people. Put yourself a couple ‘Hire and Ride’ packages together and sell them on ebay, gumtree, vivstreet, facebook marketplace, etc., etc. Makes it easy for people to buy a mountainboard lesson with just a few clicks and when it’s not being bought it just sits there being a nice little advert for the centre. Put it on your website too. None of that messy phoning to speak to some guy in a windy field to book a lesson. Modern technology. Click of a button.

That’s marketing out the way, and of course marketing is only any good if it generates sales. The old ‘put a banner up somewhere and hope people are mystically drawn to the centre’ just ain’t gonna cut it. Our marketing gets the customers in, how do we get them to come back? Let’s have a look at customer service.

Staff that come across as professionals is the first big step. Yeah, I know, corporate selling-out again, but enthusiastic, well-presented, polite, staff who understand that customer service is really really important will make a world of difference to what customer think of mountainboard centres. When customers have a good experience they want to come back. Let’s give them even more incentive. Loyalty cards are a great tool for getting people to come back. It worked for Tesco. A simple cheap-to-make laminated card with the centres name, logo and opening times on it, a space for the riders name and four boxes to be ticked. Give one to everyone who comes through the door and tell them that if they come four times they get the fifth time free. And in between visits they’re carrying around a little advert for the centre.

Not enough? Want more? What about all those thousands of customers that visited once, had a great time, left their email address on the disclaimer, and never came back. Send them an email to remind them how much fun they had last time and tell them they’ll have even more fun next time. There are plenty of free mail clients that can be set up in advance and scheduled to deliver emails throughout the season, so you only have to do the work once and then forget it till next year. Simple fact of life; people do things like mountainboarding because they enjoy it, not because it’s cool or fashionable, or because their mates are doing it. No other reason than enjoyment. Capitalise on that enjoyment. Make sure they enjoy it more each time they come.

We all know that what gets people into mountainboarding is having a go. Once they’re on a board and moving, they ‘get it’, and it isn’t something they can get from watching a video on youtube or seeing photos on flickr. That means centres have an important job to do. They are the driving force for the growth of mountainboarding, and that’s lucky because it’ll make them more money. Every mountainboard centre in the country should be thriving. There is no reason why they can’t.

One thing to bear in mind when travelling the information super-highway . Is be careful when visiting places which were once inhabited by communities. Once they have become quiet there still lurks the shadows of the avatars. It is these you have be aware of because some have more power and spirit than others. Should you log back in and awaken what has lain dormant. Then the consequences can be very interesting.

It would seam on Rem's last trip into cyberspace we might have done just that. Now we can only wait and see what the outcome might be.

Great Sunday freeride session in Wycombe yesterday. Thanks to Norwich massive for coming out to play!

Ace fun getting radical in the woods which have featured a couple of times in articles on rem; here (Bomb hills, not people) and here (Long live the King).

Doing the medium circuit, we enjoyed a bit of Yaffle, sessioned the bombhole, rode the new gravel path and monstered the daddy, ripping, slashing, checking, cruising, and getting barrelled by the trees...

...before heading to Tom Burt's for some late afternoon downhill grass-carving road-shredding blossom-sliding hip jumping goodness. ohhhhhhhhh yeaaahhh.

Like a roll-ey thing down a steep slope. All the centres have re-opened for the summer so we can go and get shredical on what they have been building over the winter.

It's only April but the first event of the season is done a dusted(should be a report appearing over on rem central soon) and it looks like evilc is going to working some of his magic for the video. Plus there are more events to come even before we get the first round of the ATBAUK International series . With the royal wedding weekend is looking pretty busy if looking for wheelie board action instead of sitting in front of the box. There are 2 events to choose from there is a discount entry for of surfin' Dirt members at Bugs or if you fancy some fun and games PUATB are taking over Ironside's Courtfarm making it for one weekend only PUATB's Courtfarm.

If you feel like the months ahead are going to be all about centre monkeying with no hook ups in the trees. Don't worry the monthly freeride meets are still going to be happening with the May's meet already sorted.

With a weekend of shredding in Rem's backyard on the 7th/8th May. The plan at the mo' is; saturday spent on Wendover's long fire roads and top sapplingbashing decents followed by some possible longboarding or Fence jumping antics (depending what peeps legs feel like). For those staying around for the weekend I'm thinking of doing a vat of chilly or BBQ. We are also looking at what camping there is a round and if all else fails there is always the green next chez Smilie. Then for sunday's shreding a visit to Wilz home ground on the other side of the Chilterns. Kingswood, For some long woodland trails, gladed cruzin' and dirtbowl jibbing.

With the first round of the ATBA-UK Int' series at the end of May at Hales Superbole. Leaving May pretty much sorted and so we or on into June. With World Mountainboard Day on the 18th and the Secound round of the ATBA Int' Series at The Edge MBC. To round the June off PORC

amd KentATB are putting on the first ever reganal downhill event. So if you want to see more downhill racing get there, compete and start thinking about if you can put your own on.

I think that is more than enough dariy filling for now, no doubt there will be more events poping in the coming months. I keep hearing roumurs of so more Cream Tea's and Jam and there might be something intresting happening at bugs durring the summer. There is even some talk of another downhill event over in the land of the Red Drangon.

You'll also get wet, caught in some April Showers no doubt, and you & your stick need protection, so give it a long, loving hand-servicing. Oil your parts. Tighten those bolts. Lube your tech up.

It seams grome's might be right

All grome's know that no one builds jumps and tracks. Instead the jump/track builder goes to secret garden centre in the woods run by Elves and Pixies and purchases some magic seeds. To sprinkle on the ground where they want their new features, waters and waits to see what grows the spring.

Really the what does happen is a few people spend long days shifting and shaping soil with wheel barrows, shovels and if they are lucky machines.

This winter judging from facebook Raph and other Ironsider's have been busy over at Court Farm MBC reshaping the Junior Boardcross

And if that wasn't enough they got proper creative and built this monster in the freestyle area along with a new hip.

Which by August when the last round of ATBAUK International series gets to Ironside's CourtFarm MBC. Both should be fully ridden in, shaped and tweaked to perfection for some killer tricknidge.

It's not just Ironside which have had their shovels out the guys down at Redhill Extreme have been doing a bit of digging. Have a look at this lot which appeared in rem's facebook news feed.

It's enough to make a dirthead reach for the Kleenex.

With tracks and crazy looking features popping out the ground like flowers and all the centres which aren't open already opening for the summer in the next couple weeks, spring has definitely sprung.

The Remolition Mothership, on it's way back from deepest space, appears to have gone into into a black hole. We're not sure if they went in on purpose- (maybe trying to see what a singularity looks like or trying to shred the event horizon), or indeed whether they just got stuck in it's immense gravitational pull and went down the super-massive plughole in space-time, like some bad late 70's star-wars-copy film (complete with Maximillian, Vincent & Old B.O.B)...

Hopefully we'll find out soon what happened (i propose boards travelling faster than the speed of light through wormhole to another dimension), and why they didn't come straight home, the dirty stop-outs... Don't they know there's work to be done on Rem? It's been a bit quiet recently y'know, not enough new features and articles?

Hmmm, if only Rem had more contributors, more riders willing to send stuff in and be part of it. Yeah, if only...

Not only are they doing tow-ins along the shore in the surf, they're now actively encouraging the wheeled version on grass & dirt:

That was 6 years ago, (old gold eh? ;) and Sepp's Alpstein Events & funpark (& truck) have got bigger and better:

Yes it's that time of year again.. The short dark days of winter are fading and everything comes back to life. Riding today saw the first daisies getting a good shredding as the wet grass meant wicked slides, and then the sun came out too. Change, growth, optimism blah blah.

Also then on telly was the BBC's so-innofensive-it's-offensive Countryfile program which featured a kite/board feature again (last year's was blogged about here & u can see the new one on iplayer again this coming week, at about 56mins in). Always good to see mountainboards (or 'kite land boards') on terrestrial teev...

The Rem Mothership is heading home soon (from deepest space) for some of this springtime goodness; it'll be good to have RemHQ back with us, on the one true "Planet Mountainboard". Earth.

It's that time of year when a fair few of us mountainboarders jump on a plane ang go and spend a week shredding the white stuff. Wilz has just back from dreaming of what Austrian mountains might be like in the summer. And Kez and me are just diggin' what snow gear we haven't already used this winter out the loft. Really this meant finding a bag containing lots exiting stuff like thermals and socks and not forgetting goggles. But it turns out after spending a day searching the house and clearing the loft, that's what we had done. It seams they haven't made it threw the three moves since we last used them. With not long till we went away meant there wasn't much time to go and purchase some new ones :-(

No need to worry though a quick call to ATBShop on monday and by tuesday two pairs of shiny new goggles have landed on our doormat.

Sweet, cheers for sorting them so quickly.

March's Rem cover shot was taken almost a week ago (on Thu 24th Feb) while i was cruising a long red on my snowshredstick back down to the Gondala station in Auffach, Austria. There was plenty of snow up on the main slopes but the lower, south-facing mountains were very bare and therefore very inviting for a wheelieboard enthusiast, beautiful with potential, garnering many longing stares.

Obviously i took a shedload of flix and will probably concoct some kind of chin-stroking article to show off a few & muse on it a bit (daydreaming about mountainboarding while snowboarding???), but meantime have a peep...

The Morning Rounds

Most mornings the routine is get up make a large cup of coffee, switch the computer and check email. Both disappearing off into cyber-space to see what peeps are doing on facebook, have a look at the forums to find out conversions are going on and then check what the blogger feed has thrown up over night. Sometimes it's a new vid from scum masters atc or from the other end of the trolleyboard spectrum Ade might added something to his dirtbox.

Today Surfing mountains came in with the goods with this soulful, woodland shred flick. Nothing gnarly just one man, his board and the woods looking at their best. Yeah' there could have been some jibbing on the banks or something. But sometimes it's just enough to go cruzin' through the trees poping the occasional olly, enjoying the ride.

Despite the lack of updates over on Rem central we have been busy working on another project those new to the world of wheelie boarding. Even though, it doesn't mean we haven't been on the hunting for new content for Remolition. We got a few words from Em about what tricky media have been up to and what plans they have 2011 and you never know your luck I might finish the look back at the Arctic challenge. Why back in 2004 when trampa boards where orange, French dirtsurfer look-a-likes came came with stabilisers and TK rode for scrub.

A short wheelyboard love story

She'd started on him after he'd spent the day out riding again. Normally not a problem (or so he thought), though this weekend they had had stuff to organise but, of course, he'd needed his 'space'; his fix, his time spent with his friends and... 'her'.

The argument escalated quickly.

She asked him if he even thought she was pretty? He said "No". She asked him if he wanted to be with her forever, he said "No". Then she asked him if he would cry if she walked away, he said "No". She had heard enough; exasperated, she needed to leave. As she turned away she uttered "you love that board more than me..."

He grabbed her by the arm and told her to stay. He said "You're not pretty, you're beautiful. I don`t want to be with you forever, I need to be with you forever. And I wouldn't cry if you walked away, I would die."

She looked into his eyes, time frozen, her soul reaching out, as he added "You're not wrong about the board thing though ;)"

It's not often us mountainboarders find our selves be directly effected by political decisions. Which unless you permanently live in a warm facebook bubble. You will have herd that in the continuing budget crises this country faces. The governments latest money making plan is to sell off a most of the land owned by the Forestry Commission.

Which you might be thinking fine, but the hills will always be there and with SSSI's and other laws to safe guard our environment. The chances are those hills are still going to covered in trees, so no worries there then!

It's not that they might get the bulldozer's out and start throwing up houses we should be worried about, even though it is a risk. The big worry is, access. Which is an odd one for mountainbaorders. Since, as a mountainboard you have very few legal rights to ride down your favourite trail through the woods. The closest we have is the Forestry Commission code of conduct. Which is a good case in point if the woods get sold off to lots different people.

When Carl started down the road to get permission back to ride at Wendover by setting up a code of conduct. He first started talking to his local ranger, who in turn talked to his boss. Who then thought it would be good to get the code of conduct rolled out across the whole of the Forestry Commission. And when it was all agreed it gave mountainboarders pretty much permission to ride in any woods throughout the UK. This was only possible because the amount land/woods/forest the commission owns.

If the woods get sold off, then more often than not they are broken up into smaller lots and bought by different people. Now could you imagine what it would be like to get permission to ride just in your local woods. If they were owned by 2 or 3 different people, each with their own thoughts, feels and plans for their bit of the woodland. You might get lucky and they might all agree but I doubt it. If they have already put up the fences marking out their own bit woods you have got no chance.

And this is the second point we have all reccied tracks only to think "that word be sick, except for that gate half way down" When people buy bits of land they have a habit of putting fences so they know where their bit stops and their neighbours begins. Even if there is a footpath crossing their land legally all they have to do is maintain the access. Which means putting in a gate or style in the where the path crosses the fence.

With such a momentous change in the way the British countryside is organised. Individuals are forming pressure groups to make us their voices are herd. And as you may have guessed there is a facebook page to add your support to. Also all the conservation charity's like the National Trust and the Woodland trust are organising campaigns.

So what to do, get on the web have a look to if your fav' spot is under threat and if it is GET INVOLVED. Because at the end of the day if someone does put a fence across your favourite trail you will only have your self to blame.

The History of Freebording

Extreme Athletes Conquer Mother Nature With Technology!

Sometime in the mid 1990s when the X Games were just coming into their own and athletes were just starting to go 'extreme,' a group of snowboarders and inventors got together under the direction of Steen Strand and created the unique sport of Freebording. Essentially, Strand wanted to combine the grace and ease of lateral movement (or 'sliding') that snowboarding allows with the year-round fun of skateboarding. He knew that if he could recreate the motion boarders loved on the slopes without the snow that he would have something spectacular.

Freebording Started In a Garage . . .

Strand teamed up with Bayard Winthrop and the two began manufacturing prototypes in Strand\'s Garage. The first usable Freebords were essentially standard long boards with a pair of caster wheels bolted to the bottom just behind the trucks. These caster wheels simulate the gliding action that a snowboard\'s base allows. Eventually Strand extended the hangers on those trucks so that the wheels stuck out past the edges of the Freebord in order to simulate the grabbing action of a snowboard\'s steel edge.

Freebords appealed to riders, especially in those in the underground skating/boarding scene in California (many of whom were featured in mid-90\' skate documentaries like Concrete Powder, Science Friction, and Never Winter) and flourished.

Technology Improves the Ride

However radical those first Freebords were, they weren\'t exactly perfect. The caster wheels had a tendency to vomit ball bearings, the boards themselves were long and ungainly, and they lacked any sort of binding—relying solely on skateboard grip tape. Over the years, Freebording, the sport and the equipment itself, have undergone some fundamental changes.

On the technical side, the boards have shrunk to more manageable sizes and weights in addition to losing their kick tails. The casters have undergone numerous redesigns, ending with a piece of machined hardware that keeps its ball bearings snug and tight. In addition, the trucks\' base plates have been significantly widened for stability and strength. Also, the composites used in the construction of the Freebord wheels have changed, allowing for greater variations in hardness which widens the styles of Freebording that riders can enjoy.

However, the most noticeable addition to the Freebord\'s original design is the adjustable S2 binding system which allows the Freebord rider a much great level of control and stability in any situation. The bindings weren\'t actually one of Strand\'s design elements. They were invented out of necessity by a California rider who lost a foot to cancer. The rider (whose name is Tim) rigged his own binding to keep his artificial limb from sliding off his Freebord, and when Strand heard about this homemade rig he incorporated the bindings into the final design.

This caught my eyes (not ears) after watching music teev for a bit... ooh na na, what's her name has shot another vid that's a delight for wheeliboardologists.
She said about it "It's really, really beautifully shot in these crazy, crazy, crazy places, We shot landscapes that we found a couple hours outside of L.A. It looks so unreal. It looks fake, like something out of a postcard with the beautiful hills."

You can't help thinking that some riders shredding about the place would've spiced things up a bit more...

btw, there's no more lovely scenery after u see her on a pikie wooden ladder structure in the middle of a lake surrounded by balloons - (art directors have a lot to answer for... ;)

Freestyle centre monkeys make a lot fuss about learning and landing new tricks. Some lucky ones get to the first to make up and land tricks in mountainboard progression. It's also the yard stick all free sports measure them selves. By what has just been invented and what most people have dialled.

If, on the other hand your boarding tastes are different from spending your riding time hitting the same jump over and over again or riding the same track till you turn your legs to jelly. Then the chances are the creative angle of mountainboarding which floats your boat. Is the endless search for the next new line. Most riders who have the searching gene start by looking at maps for tracks which fit the right looking contour lines. But as time and searching goes on for some, riding tracks and trails which have been walked, ridden and used others before. Doesn't satisfy the need to find their own line. And they start looking beyond, Viewing the slope as a whole. Knowing it's going to be down them and how they view the terrain. As to if they forge the new line they can see in their minds eye. Sometimes it might not the fastest or the easiest but when you get to the bottom and look back and see your tracks. Nothing beats the feeling of sanctification you get from knowing that those tracks are the first tracks.

There was a time when snowboarders pretty much had the monopoly on that feeling. Now though, we can get that same feeling all year round without having to jump on a plane.

Surely if you are a dedicated mountainboarder then Plymouth is the only uni worth going to. With their own society dedicated to all types of downhill wheelie boarding. And if you have been wondering what they get up to between studying, drinking cider and eating potnoddles then here's their website. What can go wrong when you have watched ATC going on a big adventure, looked on google maps. Then head out hunting with a car full of boarders, a hand drawn map and a satnav.

So this has been sitting in my head and the pics on my phone. Burning away as another blog which needs to written. With plans afoot to head to W1 not Westminster but to Rems top shred spot Wendover Woods this sunday. Is it is high time to sit down at the keyboard and waffled about the joys solo shredding and freshly dropped leaves.

As all snowboards know the best days riding come when you get a decent layer of the fresh, fluffy white stuff coupled with the sun and blue skys. Hence the phase "a blue bird freshy"

For mountainbaorders we have the same or you do if you are into your freeriding. Ours comes only for a couple of weeks a year when the trees have just lost the leaves. Meaning the woods are carpeted in the ultimate sapling bashing surface. Just right for drawing your own line through the trees, drifting through turns, throwing rooster trails from your wheels, And sliding to a stop in satisfying ball of crunchy dead leaves. Who said snowboards had the monopoly of riding their own lines in the trees.

It was this which saw me head out to Wendover a few sundays before the Christmas madness started. To enjoy a few hours alone the woods with my thoughts and ideas. Just heading down through the trees making my line as I went. Its was a bit foggy but that didn't matter and it did start to rain when I was far away from my car as I could get. Which only added to the feeling getting away hum of daily life. You get when ride into the hidden valley at the hart of Wendover woods.

True food for the soul.

Moon Boarding

Before reaching Alpha Centauri, Spaceship Rem (TM) has been sending intermittant reports back from locations in our Solar System. As they continue, no doubt there'll be tales of shredding everything in the known universe, and probably the unknown universe, the Omniverse*.

This was the first transmission we received, from our moon a mere 238,855 miles away (or so).

*nb. The Omniverse was discovered when a particulary rad rider tweaked a melon so much it wrenched at the fabric of reality, tearing a quantum pocket of existance apart at a sub-string level. Back their Himalayan sabbatical trip learning Tibetan crafts

Back in the deep mists of time and woods, when Rem wasn't even a crazy drunken idea. We found our selves filming what we were riding. Well really we did the riding and Carl and Cas did the most the camera holding. At least thats the way it worked till someone ended up broken and they then handed the camera gear. After a while Carl thought it was time sit in the dark and try make some kind of video out of 2 years of filming.

The thing about making a film is, it's pretty easy to get some content. You just need a camera, some riders and places for them to ride.

The big thing is tunidge.

You can either steal it or do the harde but better option and go out there and get the permission to use people's tracks on your DVD.

We got lucky, as we knew a few bands who pretty good at writing and playing some pretty nice tunes. So it was just a case of making few calls and buying a few pints and the job was done.

Kotki Dwa was one of those bands who let us use a couple of their songs, "cheers guys"

So the other night while driving back from some random part of the world I was pretty chuffed to hear Huw Stephens playing their latest offering . Even better to hear they were back playing gigs after a pretty long break from the stage and the studio. So if you are into quirky indy music then it's well worth checking them out.
